I am feeling the guilt from not blogging for sometime. This intensified yesterday when I facetimed mum and she said she was just getting ready to write a blog when I called through. So glad she got it done after our wee visit :)
Day off for me today. Presidents' Day and schools are closed, so I shifted my work week to Tuesday to Friday to be home with the boys today. As I lay in my bed watching good morning America I thought this would be a good time to get caught up on my blog, but Braeden just called through "mom, I'm hungry. Pancakes please", so this may need to be a quickie so I can go make chocolate chip pancakes.
Most of you are on Facebook so have already heard about my fun run saturday, but my brothers are not facebookers anymore so here I go again with my run stories.
It hit me Saturday that I am truly a lone girl in a house full of boys. As I planned my Saturday of fun run, grocery shopping and house cleaning, the boys were headed off for a day of airsoft wars!!
At 840 we went our separate ways. I headed to rogue river for my race while Scott took off to pick up 3 other 13 year olds to take them to Goldhill for the organized airsoft war.
As I arrived at Rogue river I couldn't see many "recreational" runners. Everyone looked super intense with multiple people running up and down the road to warm up. The event was a half marathon and a 5k. Too close to Xmas/new year, and not having been well this winter, the half was out of my reach right now. So it was the 5k for me.
I watched the half marathoners take off. What a sight to see all those runners crossing the bridge in front of us. 10 mins later they released the 5k people and off I went. First mile 8 mins 30. I don't remember what I was at the other splits, but I remember feeling winded with legs like wood as I hit the bridge on my last leg,so I know my pace had dropped. A young girl passed me and I just had to let her go, I didn't have it in me to catch her. She was long gone........Or so it seemed :) as I neared the end of the bridge the wee voice in my head told me to try the striding my running coach had just taught me a couple days before. And what a result. I caught her up and on the results it shows we went through the finish line in the same second. 26 mins 55 secs. Pace overall 8 mins 41. And I placed 6/23 women in my age group. 22/84 women overall. I was happy with my race but do see areas I can improve on. Next scheduled race is the 5 mile Shamrock run in March. April will be the 10 mile pear blossom. May I'm thinking I'm going to try my first trail run in the Applegate. Our local wine region :) I think I will have the choice of 5 mile or 10 mile. June, I'm still trying to decide, then July will be the 4th of July 10k run in crescent city. August I'm still looking into, September is the Rogue half marathon in Medford, then October is the grants pass half marathon. We will see if I can do back to back halfs or if I drop to a lesser distance on one of those races. November will be an 8 mile turkey trot in Medford, then December the Boxing Day run in Banchory with Gary :) then hopefully start the New year with the lumphanon 10k. :) so that's my plans for this year. So mum, I should have quite a few race t shirts you can wear once you are here :)
Scott got up with me this morning as I headed out on my 530am run with the dogs and he hit the spin bike. That's it, he's starting to train for the pear blossom run in April. I am quickly putting a stop to any thoughts he has of running with me. We are just completely different runners with the mental component just being such poles apart. I am amazed at how he can just put his head down and never lose focus. I go through a range of emotions and have multiple mental mantras I use to stop myself from just stopping and going for coffee and chocolate instead ;)
Speaking of being amazed, the first half marathoner yesterday completed his race with an average 5 min 24 sec mile. Amazing!!!! Oh to be a young man for just one race ;)

So here is my running watch at the end of my race. What a great christmas gift from scott this year. The lower number was my pace as i went through the finish line. Wish i could keep up the striding longer. I will be working on that :)

And this is a very rough looking photo, but i took it on my 10 mile run a couple of weekends ago to show scott where i had made it to. The opposite side of town in front of our mascot for grants pass, the caveman :)
Right I better go before I start to experience the wrath of a hungry growing boy ;)
Love to all
