Well there I am.Turquoise t shirt, white long sleeve tied around my waist. On the last stretch of my first 10 mile run!
What a great run it was. I loved the experience. As the first fastest males and females passed me I cheered them on. I smiled and waved at all the people who had come out that morning to cheer the runners on. Clapped at the band playing close to the base of the hill on the run. Just absolutely loved every moment of it. And while my time was slower than I thought I would do, I reflect on how the pace just allowed me to take in every experience of the race, and was a good starting point to the running career I now feel inspired to pursue. My time was 1hr 35.51 secs, so my pace was 9.35 min mile. I was 61/137 females in my age range, and 349/858 in overall females. Taking the place of coming in 865th overall. But in my kids eyes I was the winner :-)
And the morning after, I feel great. No aches, pains or injuries. Going to take a quick run with Holly this afternoon. Next race will be a short 5 mile mid may, so i want to develop a faster pace for it. Although I wont be participating in the Eugene half marathon May 1st (cost is $80 registration not to mention travel expenses that would be incurred), I do want to try to achieve the half marathon distance in my training runs by then. The past 2 years Grants pass has had its own half marathon in november so i am hoping that will be on this year and I will plan on that. Yes I think i have been bitten by the running bug. So maybe afterall, I may make my goal of marathon when I turn 40. I had originally thought of the NY marathon, but on reflection I think I am going to stick with my homeside of the western states. So either the Seattle Rock n roll marathon, or the san Francisco, which I hear its extravgant in the costumes of many of the runners :-)
So thats it....this blog is all about me ;-) But I will give a shout out to my 3 boys who lovingly got up at 6am to drive me to the run. Found porta potties with a small line ;-) Hung out with me until the starting guns, and were there in the final stretch cheering me on. Yep, made me shed a wee tear as I crossed the finish line. Thank you Scott, Cade and Braeden. You made a great day just the best xxx
Love to all.
Lucy xxxx
